Success Story

“Great job, Mr. Brooks!”

Midlands Health and Rehab would like to recognize a very special individual, Mr. Daryl Brooks!  Mr. Brooks came to Midlands after a 3-month hospitalization at Prisma Health Richland.  He was experiencing weeks of right leg pain which prompted him to go the emergency room.  He was diagnosed with osteomyelitis which resulted in him having a metatarsal amputation.

Mr. Brooks suffers from diabetes and end stage renal disease which increased healing time and decreased endurance.  When he arrived at Midlands, Mr. Brooks required extensive assistance with standing functional mobility tasks. He presented as a major fall risk primarily because of his balance concerns, decreased sensation, and decreased functional activity tolerance.

Although Mr. Brooks had experienced some setbacks in regard to his physical mobility and health, he continued to be one of the first patients in the rehab gym every morning.  His dedication and tenacity ultimately paid off and he was able to discharge at a residential care home at a supervision level of function!
