Success Story – Aug – Mr. Brown
Midlands Health and Rehab would like to acknowledge a special resident, Mr. Rickey Brown. Mr. Brown came to Midlands after a two-week hospitalization at Prisma Health Richland with an admitting diagnosis of chronic kidney disease. Some of his other health concerns included: atrial fibrillation, morbid obesity, and osteoarthritis of both hips.
Upon admission to Midlands, Mr. Brown was experiencing extreme pain in both hips (secondary to arthritis) and overall generalized weakness. He also had decreased endurance, poor standing balance, and required moderate to maximum assistance with most functional mobility tasks. Mr. Brown lived with his wife and needed to be independent when he returned home. With the assistance of the physician and the nursing department, his pain was managed.
Mr. Brown was one of the first patients in the therapy gym and exercised on his own in his room. His hard work and desire paid off and he was able to return home to his wife independent with all functional tasks!
