Success Story – Dec – Mr. Goldwire
Midlands Health and Rehab would like to shed light on a very special resident, Mr. Lawrence Goldwire Jr. Mr. Goldwire is a short-term resident that came to Midlands after an approximate 3 week stay at Mcleod Regional Medical Center with the complaints of left leg pain. During the course of his stay at Mcleod, Mr. Goldwire eventually had to have a left above the knee amputation secondary to complications from peripheral vascular disease.
Upon arrival to Midlands, Mr. Goldwire presented with decreased endurance and intense pain at the surgical site. Subsequently, this required him to require increased assistance with mobility. The nursing staff and physician were both informed and collaborated to manage his pain, which ultimately increased his participation in therapy sessions.
Mr. Goldwire had a previous amputation of his right lower extremity in 2011, which meant that other modifications and different techniques in regard to functional mobility had to be addressed. However, he stayed motivated, remained determined, and continued to work hard in every treatment session. Because of his dedication and perseverance, Mr. Goldwire was able to return home with his wife at a supervisory level with home health services.
